A Break from Fashion…
Dalai Lama in Australia
The 14th Dalai Lama of Tibet visited Melbourne this past weekend, and I was one of the lucky people who went and listened to his teachings at the Melbourne Convention Centre.
Speaking on the paths of buddhism, how to control anger, jealousy and greed, discussing the situation between China and Tibet, the situation in Mongolia, having faith in more than one religion and the art of meditation, it was a full on seminar, but totally worth the 6:30am wake up.
The day started with guided meditation from a different monk – Vietnamese, Tibetan and Mongolian – followed by each countries chanting and prayer. His Holiness would then enter – the whole audience standing as he did so – before greeting everyone with a ‘good morning’ and a giggle.
He made no claims as to being a god and did not preach one word. He acknowledged China’s portrayal of him as the devil, however still spoke of the country with great respect and admiration.
He was teaching in Canberra today, and tomorrow arrives in Brisbane to do a three day seminar on dealing with loss and grief after being affected by the floods. The public conversation is sold out, however www.dalailamainaustralia.org still has private tickets for sale.
It is not something you want to miss.
